Speaker 1
The Olympic Games happen every four years. Sportsmen who take part in the Games and who are winners get medals for each sports event, with gold medals for the first place, silver for the second and bronze for the third. They never get any money. The Winter Olympiad appeared because the summer Olympics were so successful and popular with people.
Speaker 2
A winter sport is a sport which is played on snow or ice. Most of such sports are variations of skiing and ice skating. Traditionally people used to do such sports in the countries with snowy winters. But now it is different. You can skate all the year round. Common individual winter sports include cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, figure skating, bobsleigh and others. Common team sport is ice international competitions — the winter Olympic Games.

Summer Olympics have taken place in many countries. The United States has had four Summer Olympic Games, more than any other nation. The United Kingdom has had three Summer Olympics (they returned to the British capital in 2012) and all of them have been in London, making it the first city to hold the Summer Olympic Games three times. Australia, France, Germany and Greece have had the Summer Olympics twice. In 1980 the Summer Olympics took place in Moscow.
Speaker 4
In 2012 the First Olympic Games for young athletes took place in Innsbruck, Austria. They were a major sports event and a cultural festival of the year. People celebrated it in the tradition of the Olympic Games. About 1,100 athletes from 70 countries took part in the competitions. It was a really good start.
