What Causes Headaches?
The answer to this question may be: anything and everything! A headache can start for any of hundreds of reasons. You see, a headache is not a disease. It is a symptom [ˈsɪmptəm]. It is just a way of knowing that there is some problem in some part of the body.
We know something about the “mechanism” [ˈmekənɪzm] of headaches that is what happens in the body to cause the pain of a headache. The pain itself comes from certain structures [ˈstrʌktʃəz] in the skull. The veins [veɪnz] and arteries [ˈɑ:tərɪz] feeding the brain can “feel” pain. Also, when your teeth, ears and muscles [ˈmʌslz] hurt, the pain goes to the brain and a person gets a headache.
People often give personal reasons for getting a headache. Some say they have it when they are hungry, others say going without their “morning coffee” gives them headaches. But what is really happening in all these cases? In fact, the arteries in the skull become wider. This gives a headache to practically every person.

4) Everybody gets a headache when they are hungry.
