Read Aesop’s fable “The Kid and the Wolf” and say which the best moral is for it.
Morals:
a) Never do things if you can’t do them well.
b) Try to find a way out of any dangerous situation.
c) Never try to please people.
The Kid and the Wolf
A kid lost his way in the wood. In the middle of the wood he met a big hungry wolf [wʊlf]. First the poor kid tried to run away but the wolf was strong and could run better than the kid.
When the kid saw that he was going to die, he stopped and said: “I know, sir, that I can’t run away from you and I know that you are going to eat me. There is only one thing I want to ask you: my life will be very short, so, please, make it as joyful as it can be. Will you play the pipe for me to dance to your music before I die? I think you are wonderful musician.” The wolf agreed [ə'ɡri:d] to play some music before his dinner: he thought he was a fine musician and enjoyed performing even if his audience was just one little kid. He took out his pipe and began to play, and the kid started dancing before him.
Very soon some people who were not far away heard the music and came running to see what was going on. They saw the wolf and drove him away. Before running off the wolf turned to the kids and said: “I deserve [dɪ'zɜ:v] this. My job is to kill but not to perform. Playing music to please you isn’t my business at all.”
